F.A.Q - Boutique Africaine

We've got answers

What can I sell on the marketplace?

Boutique Africaine is a one of a kind marketplace where buyers come to purchase ethnic, modern and eclectic items that they might not find elsewhere or would have to dig deep into other web platforms to find. Everything listed for sale on our site must use visible ethnic patterns and/or design that reflect Africa and its diaspora cultural diversity.

You can sell handmade or manufactured items but the quality has to be guaranteed by you, the seller. Our sellers typically sell items made of African prints using Holland wax, Ankara or Kenté.

How do fees work?

Joining and starting a shop on Boutique Africaine is based on the membership that you choose.

Basic, Intermediate or Enterprise. Prices vary from $5  to $25 per month. and you  are charged :

A listing fee
A sales commission  fee on each sale
A transaction and payment processing fee

It costs $5/month to publish your listings on the marketplace. Your listings lasts as long as you want them to or until all your items are sold.

Once an item sells, there is a 15% commission fee (or lower) on the sale price (not including shipping costs). If you accept payments with PayPal, there is also a payment processing fee based on their fee structure.

Listing fees are billed in USD, so if your bank’s currency is not USD, the amount may differ based on changes in the exchange rate.

What do I need to do to create a store?

Create an account (if you don’t already have one), set your shop location and currency, choose a store name, create a shop banner (1300px x 350px) and listing, set a payment method (how you want to be paid), and finally set a billing method (how you want to pay our recurring fees)

How do I get paid?

If you accept payments with PayPal, funds from PayPal sales on Boutique Africaine will be deposited into your PayPal account. We encourage sellers to use a PayPal Business account and not a Personal account, as personal accounts are subject to monthly receiving limits and cannot accept payments from buyers that are not funded by a credit card.

Do I need a credit or debit card to create a shop?

No. A credit or debit card is not required to create a shop. To be verified as a seller you have the choice to use either your phone number  or to register via PayPal. You will not incur any charges until you open your shop and publish your listings.

Can my product(s) be rejected?

Your items have to have a visible ethnic pattern or print on them. Colorful African belts, jumpsuits made of Holland wax print or shoes with an ethnic Brazilian pattern are all good examples of products that are satisfactory. Your product will be rejected if they lack this key component.

How do I sell in new categories?

if there are products that you would like to sell that do not fit in any of our current categories, please send an email to categories@boutiqueafricaine.com  with an image, description and suggestion of category you would like to have your product under. Please note that you’re suggestion should fit in one of our 3 departments . Clothing,  Accessories, Home and Living.
